Supporting Healthcare Practices

I am constantly grateful to be able to work with, respect and support healthcare professionals. Most people do not know how many years of academic and clinical education they have had, how hard they work, how much they care and how committed they are to their professions. Physicians, Nurses, Physical Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Psychologists, Chaplains, Athletic Trainers, EMTs and everyone else do so many things to help people and save lives and every day. (Please don’t be upset if I didn’t list your profession. If you want me to add another one, message me and I just might.)

How do I, as a Massage Therapist support healthcare professionals?

I keep my vaccinations and flu shots up to date. I understand universal precautions and cross contamination issues. I adhere to best practices.

I will tell all my clients to please inform you, their physician, nurse or other healthcare professional that they are planning on and/or receiving massage therapy. If I am significantly concerned I may request a client gets a consent or permission to have massage therapy. I will respect confidentiality and privacy. I follow HIPAA guidelines and have stringent confidentiality guidelines in real life. I will refer individuals back to their health providers if there is a question or concern.

I stay in my lane and adhere to my scope of practice, Massage Therapy and Bodywork. Things I don’t do;

  • I do not provide medical treatment or advice
  • I do not do counseling, I am no one’s life coach or health coach
  • I do not do physical or occupational therapy
  • I do not do spiritual healing or chakra balancing
  • I do not suggest, provide or sell anything or promote MLMs or products that may be in conflict with medical treatments or medications, such as; supplements, essential oils and/or cbd products
  • I do not sell any products and am usually referring people back to their physician, nurse navigator, pharmacist, etc.

I constantly balance the art and science of massage therapy and bodywork. I consider my practice many things; evidence informed, outcome based, person centered, holistically oriented and clinically responsible.

I am willing to share information about Massage and Bodywork: What credentials they should look for, what we do, how to find the best therapists to refer to, why they could or should refer to a massage therapist. I have done grand rounds, had new med students follow me through a hospital to watch what I do, I am comfortable being a speaker for a professional meeting or even a short in-service for a practice. I am experienced in creating and consulting on hospital based massage therapy and integrative programs. Please let me know how I could serve you and your patients best.

I love to ethically and responsibly refer to other health care professionals. I do not participate in kickbacks or “special” referral programs.

Wherever the art of medicine is respected, there is also respect for humanity.
